Sat. 9th June. WCCL – Division 5 Melksham 76-0 Collingbourne 75 All Out- Melksham Win By 10 Wickets

Melksham bounced back from their first defeat of the season with victory at home to Division 5 strugglers Collingbourne, with a rampant bowling attack setting the stage for an emphatic 10-wicket win.

Winning the toss and putting the visitors into bat, Melksham’s opening bowling duo of Gary Ings and Matt Lee provided the opposition with scarce opportunities to score runs. Lee was able to pick up 2 wickets along the way to leave Collingbourne 23-2. Only Karl Gringell was subsequently able push the scoring along before being bowled by Chris Singh for 34.

The flood gates then opened as the leg-spinner proceeded to tear the Collingbourne middle order apart, finishing with impressive figures of 4-20 from his 9 overs and leaving the batting side reeling on 68-6. Jack Footner (3-21) and Russell Collins (1-6) then efficiently mopped up the tail, with Collingbourne being dismissed for a meagre 75.

In response, openers Daniel Carpenter and Tom Wallis rarely looked troubled as they set about chasing down the target. Helped along the way by a couple of notable mistakes from the Collingbourne fielders, the duo successfully reached 76 in 19 overs. Carpenter managed to reach a total of 42 runs, whilst Wallis finished on 26.
