Melksham CC is a friendly cricket club located in the heart of Wiltshire, welcoming to players of all ages and abilities. Based in the middle of Melksham near the Grade II listed Melksham House property, we are currently a relatively small club for a town of our size, but one with huge ambitions going forward.
Currently we boast two senior sides who compete in the Wiltshire County Cricket League, with our 1st XI and 2nd XI currently residing in Division 4 and Division 7 West respectively. We also field a friendly T20 side, which plays other local teams on a Wednesday night.
The Club was established in late 2016 as a successor club to Beanacre and Melksham CC; itself formed as a result of a merger between Beanacre CC and Melksham Town CC in 2011. With the previous club’s fortunes dwindling both on and of the pitch for some years, it was felt that a reboot of the club, including changing our name to establish ourselves as the premier club in Melksham, was a necessary step to ensure the survival of cricket in the town. The club was in further jeopardy that year when a devastating fire gutted our pavilion at Melksham House, temporarily rendering us without an indoor facility of our own for the next couple of seasons.
The fresh start immediately inspired a change of fortunes on the pitch, with the 2017 season seeing our 1st XI achieve a commendable 3rd placed finish in Division 5. The following 2018 season would be even better for the club, finishing 2nd place during a dramatic campaign, in the process winning promotion to Division 4. That season also saw the opening of our new pavilion.
Unfortunately the 1st XI were unable to sustain their winning form the following campaign. The team were unable to achieve any kind of consistency, and hence only avoided relegation by a mere 4 points. 2019 still proved to be a successful year for the club overall though, with a major swelling of the club’s ranks meaning that we were able to field a 2nd XI for the first time. Our new second string side done the club proud during a debut year which saw them finish 3rd in Division 9.
As with many things during 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused significant disruption to recreational cricket in the country, and hence during this year the club was only able to compete in friendly bubble leagues after the usual league competition was cancelled. Hopefully the league will resume this year as normal, and the club hopes that both teams will be able to kick on and make strong showings in the respective leagues this year.
Our Youth Section provides cricket for children of all abilities, both boys & girls. Our sessions are on a Friday evening at Melksham House. We provide two training sessions, one for under 8’s and one for over 8’s.
