About Us

Melksham CC is a friendly cricket club located in the heart of Wiltshire, welcoming to players of all ages and abilities. Based in the middle of Melksham near Grade II listed Melksham House, we are a relatively small club for a town of our size, but one with huge ambitions going forward.

Currently we field two senior sides who compete in the Wiltshire County Cricket League, with our 1st XI and 2nd XI currently residing in Division 4 and Division 8 West respectively. We also field a friendly T20 side, which plays other local teams on a Wednesday night.

Club History

The Club was established in late 2016 as a successor club to Beanacre and Melksham CC, itself formed as a result of a merger between Beanacre CC and Melksham Town CC in 2011. With the previous club’s fortunes dwindling both on and of the pitch for some years, it was felt that a reboot of the club – including changing our name to establish ourselves as the premier club in Melksham – was a necessary step to ensure the survival of cricket in the town. The club was placed in further jeopardy that year when a devastating fire gutted our pavilion, temporarily rendering us without an indoor facility to call our own for the next couple of seasons.

The fresh start immediately inspired a change of fortunes on the pitch, with the 2017 season seeing our 1st XI achieve a commendable 3rd placed finish in Division 5. The following 2018 season would be even better for the club, finishing 2nd place during a dramatic campaign and winning promotion to Division 4 as a result. The 2018 season also saw the opening of our rebuilt pavilion.

Unfortunately the 1st XI failed to sustain their winning form the following season. The team were unable to achieve any kind of consistency, and hence only avoided relegation by a mere 4 points. 2019 still proved to be a successful year for the club overall though, with a major influx of new players enabling us to field a 2nd XI for the first time. Our new second string side done the club proud during a debut year which saw them finish 3rd in Division 9.

As with many things during 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic caused significant disruption to recreational cricket in the country. Hence during this year the club  competed in one-off friendly bubble leagues after the usual league competition was cancelled. Thankfully normality was restored for the 2021 season, although unfortunately both sides endured difficult campaigns which sure the 1sts and 2nds finishing 8th and 9th in their respective leagues.
